Beavers to Open
Season In 1935

Thomas L. Turner, owner of the
ortland club of the Pacific coast
mseball league, announced Monday
he Portland team will open the 1935
eason in a new ball park with stands
if steel and concrete.
The new park and. stadium will be
milt here by Ralph B. Lloyd, Los
ingeles capitalist, Turner told the
hamber of commerce members, for
tm luncheon.
The site of the new park has not
een selected. Plans for the new
tadtum are In hand, H. R. Drinker,
Joyd's Portland representative, said.
The Portland Beavers will train
his season at Ventura, Cal., Turner

With acceptances received from all
six schools Invited to participate In
the basketball tournament to be held
at the Northwest Nazarene college
gymnasium at Nampa January IB and
20, drawings were to be made the first
of this week, Loren H. Basler, Col
lege of Idaho coach who is promot
ing the tourney, has announced.
Six teams entered Include Albion
Normal 'school, Gooding college, Boise
Junior College, Eastern Oregon Nor
mal school, Northwest Nazarene col
lege and the College of Idaho.
Coach Bob Qulnn will take a com
paratively untried team to. represent
E. O. N. In the first game, with just
three days of practice, the Moun
taineers were defeated by Boise Junior
col lego 47 to 24. t
Three more games,, oil last week
end, prepared the Eastern Oregon
Normal school team for its entrance
Into the tournament. The Moun
taineers , lost to Whitman- college
Thursday night, and to Lewlston Nor
mal school Friday and Saturday.
The Mountaineer squad Is composed
