already been announced by Neville
Chamberlain, chancellor of the ex
chequer. Revenue is running about
50,000,000 more than at the same
time last year, while ordinary ex-
' pendlture ahows a . decrease equiva
lent to more than 2e0,O00.OO0.
: Under the existing law. however,
'any surplus realized . by the end of
the financial year on March 31 must I
, be applied to the redemption, of debt.

gan State collego have led two scien
tist to conclude that electrocution
of milk bacteria is preferable to or
dinary methods of pasteurization for
eliminating bacteai organisms.
Working simultaneously, .Profejsor
Alcee J, Oclpl of Louisiana and E. x.
Dovereux of Michigan are convinced
tho electrocution method la more ef
ficient and that It does not Impair
the quality of the milk.
The vrocee. as explained by Pro
fessor Oclpl, consists of running a
continuous stream or column of milk
through a rectangular and narrow
chamber with carbon electrodes In
the aide walls. Application of current
sets up sufficient heat to reduce the
bacteria count about 09 per cent. -
Oclpl found reason to believe, after
painstaking experimentation, that -the
destruction of tho endoeporcs Is duo
to tho heat they . develop within
themselves rather-than heat created 1
in the medium surrounding them.
