Spencer, better known as "Grandma"
Spencer, will be held tomorrow after
noon at 3 o'clock at the Snqdgrass
and Zimmerman mortu'ary. Burial
will take place In tho Covo cemetery.
Mrs. Spencer, a pioneer resident of
the Orande Ronde valley, was very
well known and her death today was
mourned by a large circle' of friends
and by her relatives. Doath came
Sunday at the home of her daugh
ter, Mrs. Harriet Owsley. She also
lenves another daughter, Mrs. Ettle
Wright, of Bend.
Born In Indiana on June 30, 1844.

Expert anglerB who are accustom
ed to get results when they whip
their lines Into river pools, were
puzzled all this month by a very
definite . lack of reward on the
Necanlcum river one of the best
fishing streams In the state.
Saturday state policemen solved
the puzzle. Louis Clana of Sea
side, and Hans Kaufman of Port
land, were arrested when police
discovered they had Installed two
chicken wire fish traps across the
stream, completely barring ' the
river about three miles south of
seaside.

CODE DRAFTED AT
SATURDAY MEETING
A code to regulate tho marketing

meeting of shippers of Southern Ida
ho and the Walla Walla and Yakima
valleys here on Saturday. The code
will be presented to a full meeting
or shippers soon and when approved
it will be sent to Washington, D. O,
for approval. .
Continuing ethics and practices to
be followed, the code must bo en
dorsed by a majority of factors in.
terested In the prune deal before It
can be adopted.
It was brought out that a survey
of the Walla Walla valley by the
federal inspection service had showed
a production this year of only 720
carloads as against a normal crop of
moo to 1400 carloads. The 720 fig
ure is about 60 per cent of normal.
Last year's production was 1200 cars
of which only about 800 were shipped.

MIDDLE WEST S
Miss Mabel E. Doty, city librarian,
and Miss Mae Stearns returned to La
Grande Saturday afternoon following
a month's visit In the middle west.
The La Gronders went first to Chi
cago where they spent several days
visiting friends and Inspecting the
Century of Progress exposition. After
that they visited among relatives
and friends at Lansing. Saginaw, Mus
kegon and Grand Haven, Mich., and
at Kansas City. Mo. Mrs. Ella Doty
accompanied her daughter to, the
east and will visit until September
at the homes of her sons who live in
Michigan.
