Another tragedy, that took the lives of two La Grande
; men still so young as to be just really entering life in earnest,
J occurred near Imbier the other morning. It was the third
fatal accident within the last few weeks in and near this
city, with four lives lost. ( ,
Isn't there some way of bringing a halt to these car smash--ups
and consequent loss of life? , .-. .
No! They never can be completely eradicated but they
pan be minimized to a great extent by continued vigilance

Soon the cherry orchards, of the Grande Ronde valley will
bo full of activity, and nearby packing sheds, will be hum
ming with work and the annual flow of some of the finest
cherries , the world produces will start to the market from
this county.
In the peak years, when markets were encouracinD- and
yields were at the top, cherry orchardists over this, section
were "sitting on lop of the world." Right now they are quite
a ways from their old seat, but in spite of winferkii.l'and ad
verse markets, they are on the climb back and w trust
it won't be long until they find their old pinnacle of pros
