Mr. and Mrs, Gehr stopped In Port
land where they were feted extensive,
ly. Mrs. Raymond Vester was a
luncheon hostesa Tuesday afternoon
at nor Portland home, and Mrs. Edgar
Garbade entertained with a luncheon
and bridge party recently. They were
guests at the home of their parents,
Mrs. R. E. Gehr and Mr. and Mrs. T.
A. Garbade, while in Portlund. - -,
So-Ne-He Club In
Outing Wednesday
The Grande Ronde river yesterday
was the setting for the last of the
out-door meetings at which the So-Ne-Ho
club will entertain. T(ie mem
bers met at 10 o'clock at the river
with their families, and after a short
business meeting a potluck lunch was
served. The afternoon was spent In
games and conversation.
Mi J. Louis Evans was admitted to
membership hi the club.
Mrs, Teresa Patten will entertain
at her home In two weeks.
Neighborhood Club
President Returns
With the return of the president.
Mrs. J. T. Longfellow, to L Grande
after a summer In California, the ac
tivities of the La Orande Neighbor
hood club will be returned.- The win
ter's program will open on Tuesday,
Oct. 4. , , v
Committees have beeff working dur
ing the summer on details of the
program, the year , book and other
phcaes of club, activity whlch'will be
announced In the near future, it is

Plans for a district convention of
the Rcbekah lodge, to be held In La
Grande late next month, and also for
the anniversary celebration, to be an

theatre was destroyed by lire Wed
nesday with loss estimated at 50,OOG,
following an explosion which- was
felt throughout the community,-The
theatre was completed only two
months ago. ,
No one was Injured, although a
projection machine operator was
asleep in the upper section of the
theatre when the lire started.

ward Beugger, of Gresham, suffered
head and lace cuts last night when
her husbond's automobile crashed in
to a 1200-pound horse on Powell
boulevard, killing the animal. Reug

the machine.

Salem late Tuesday again was halt
ed . In its efforts to become owner
of the city water system when Judge
L, Q. Leveling sustained the demur
rer of the Oregon-Washington Water
Service corporation to the city's com
plaint in a test suit on the legality
of a charter amendment providing
funds for. securing the water system.
The ameudment, carried by a vote
of the people on December 15, 1931,
provided a $3,600,000 bond Issue for
buying and adding to the Oregon
Washington water service system.

said.
