Heicher United in Marriage Monday Night At the Home of the Bride's Parents At a pretty ceremony at 6 :00 . o'c-loclt Monday evening, Miss Lola Nel son ana Winchester HaHock Heicher, of Ban Ansel mo, Oil,, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs, A. W. Nelson. Only members of their Immediate families witnessed the-ring ceremony which was per formed by Dr. M. K. W. Heicher, father of the bridegroom, assisted by Rev. W. H. Hertzog, pastor of the First Methodist church of La Grande. Dr. Heicher Is an Instructor In the Pres byterian seminary In San Anselmo and for the past two years has been occupying the pulpit of the First Presbyterian church in San Fran cisco. A tall basket of white gladioluses V furnished a background for the cere i niony which was performed by the light of tapers In silver candelabra. Golden banded lilies of Japan In a sliver vase completed the setting. The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, was attractive in a traveling costume of dark green os brana with a black hat and acces sories to match. She wore a corsage of butterfly rosebuds, centaurea, Bweet peas and single gladiolus blos soms. The wedding dinner was served im- mediately after the ceremony at n.hlch places were arranged for the wedding party, members of the two Immediate Jbmllles and Mr. and Mrs. Hertzog. White lilies, pink rose buds and white Bweet peas fonned the center piece at the table. . Mr. Heicher, who 4s the only son of Dr. and Mrs. M.' K. W. Heicher, graduated from Stanford university In 1930, after which he was a grad uate assistant in the history depart ment of the University of Oregon. In June, 1931, he went to France and spent three months studying at Tours before going to the Higher In stitute of International Studies at Geneva where he studied and also at. tended many of the deliberations of the League of Nations during the winter session. Miss Nelson attended the University of Oregon where she was active in campus activities and a member of Pi Beta Phi, social sorority, and Theta Sigma Phi, national honorary jour nalistic sorority. Following the wedding dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Heicher left for the Wal lowa mountains where they will spend several days. Returning late In the week they plan to remain In La Grande until August 20 when they will leave toy automobile for New York City where he has a Penfield fellowship at New York university to study toward a Ph. D degree In politi cal science. Royal Neighbors - : TojH9ld Meeting On Sept. 12, the Royal Neighbors of America will hold a social meeting and Mrs. Effle Young will be at the head of the refreshment committee. according to plans made 'last night when they met at the I. Racine Drum Corps Not Coming West RACINE. Wis., Aug. D ) Lack of funds will prevent Racine's widely known American Legion drum and bugle corps from attending the na tional legion convention in Portland, Ore., next month. Milton W. Youngs, post commander, has announced. The drum and bugle corps has com peted at 11 national conventions and won first place four times, finishing the other times always neap the top. The trip to Portland would cost 19000. Admiral Leigh To Command U. S Navy WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 W-Admlral Richard H. Leigh, commander of the battle force, tomorrow will relieve Admiral Frank H. Lancaster testified in his mur der trial today that Haden Clarke had promised him before he left on a business trip to. the west that he would care for Mrs. J. M. Keith-Miller "so that I would remember his friendship." The state charges Lancaster shot Clarke to death after the latter had replaced him in the affections of Mrs. Keith-Miller, his Australian flying partner. Lancaster said Clarke made the promise after he had cautioned Clarke to keep - Mrs. - Keith-Miller from drinking too heavily during his absence. "When she drank heavily her con duct was not normal," Lancaster testified. r - "I spoke confidentially to Haden before I left about my love for Mrs. Kelth-Mlller and urged him to take care of her," the witness continued. Clarke was shot April 31, less than 12 hours after Lancaster returned from his western trip on learning the two planned to marry. Lancaster told how his admiration for Mrs. J. M. Kelth-Mlller turned to love during their London to Aus tralia flight in 1927-28. "We were in the public eye at that time, of course, and after our arrival in Australia, and we had little oppor tunity to see each other," he testi fied. , , "Since the long Australian flight, my love for Mrs. Kelth-Mlller has Increased during the years." Mrs. Kelth-Mlller testified yester day she no longer loved the memory of Clarke, who replaced Lancaster In ber affections, and that she no longer loved Lancaster although she was In tensely fond of him. . THREE OFFICERS RESIGN 8ALEM, Aug. y The Oregon national guard headquarters here to day announced ' the resignations of three of its officers, all of which were accepted. Business reasons were given by the officials as cause for the ac tion. Those who resigned from the guard were First Lieutenants W. H Ger retson, of Roeeburg, and Second, Lieu tenants Leland J. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Berry and daughter visited at the Harve Berry home Sunday, Mrs. J. A. Leak and Mrs. Clara Richards have gone to Yakima, to spend a week visiting and trans acting business, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wilson and sons, Carlyle and Brewster, of May Park, were dinner guests at the Whit ing home Sunday. Miss Mamie Leak, of Liberty dis trict entertained at dinner Sunday, in honor of her brother, Maurice. The young people here have en Joyed two dancing parties, one Wed nesday evening at the Del McCoy home and the other at J. A. Leak's Monday. Mr. and Mrs. William LI n rise y and son, Harold, of Chicago, and Mrs. Dorothy Ansell and children, of Salt Lake City, visited recently at the home of their sister, Mrs. Annie H. Nebeker. . Two victims of mob violence died Menus Of The Day By Mrs. Alexander George EVENING PARTY REFRESHMENTS Tuna Salad Sandwiched Nut Bread Sandwiches Frozen Berry Dessert Cocoanut Cake Coffee Tuna 8aliul FUlIng (For 12 Sandwiches) 1 cup tuna. , i hard' cooked egg. 4 tablespoons chopped pickles. 1-3 cup chopped celery. 1 teaspoon salt. teaspoon paprika. 1-3 cup salad dressing. Pour boiling water over tuna. Let stand 10 minutes. Drain and chill. Th tuna will then greatly resemble chicken In flavor. Mince tuna with a fork.. Add rest of Ingredients. Spread on buttered slices of white bread. Add bits of shredded lettuce. Cover with other buttered bread slices. Vress firmly and remove crusts. Frozen Berry Dessert, for 8 (Any kind of berries, can be used) 2 cupa berries. ; j j 2 cups BUgar. 1-3 cup lemon Juice. 2 cups cream. & cup milk. Crush berries or press through sieve. Add sugar and lemon Juice and let stand 5 minutes. Stir several times. Stirring slowly, add cream and milk. Pour into tray in mechanical refrigerator and after 30 minutes, re move tray and beat the partially frozen mixture. Return tray and after another 30 minutes, repeat the beat ing. It requires about 4 hours to freeze this dessert.
