Miss Virginia Hunter and James Woodruff went to the lake Saturday and will be guests of Mrs. Margaret McDonald over the weekend. . ' Mrs. Barton Wade Is a patient at ' Jtlio Enterprise hospital suffering from ' an infection In her face caused by a bee sting. ' Mrs. W. P. Poole returned Sunday from Hlllsboro where she spent a month with her daughter; Mrs. Leo Red. The Eastern Star picnic which was held Friday evening at the Izaak Wal ton league park was attended by 100 people and proved to bo the-most en joyable event the chapter has spon ' sored this year. Members of- both the Masonic and Eastern Star orders were Invited. Games were provided ; . .'. for the children and the men engaged i , Jn a- baseball game until the picnic .. dinner was ready. . Obituary ' ' JAMES BARNEY (it'IATANI) (Contributed) -Funeral services for James Bnrnoy Qutnland were held Sunday after noon at a o'clock at tho BuodBMBs and Zimmerman mortuary with Rev, W. H. Hertzog, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Paul Knautz sang. Burial took place In the family plot at tho Masonic ceme tery. Mr. Qui nl and was born In Kentucky April 22, 1873 and was &P years, three months and six days of age at the time of his death. When Just a young man ho moved to Oregon with his parents, tho late James and Belle Qutnland, Inter mov ing to Union county where he made his home since 1805. He learned tho millers trade In tho Pioneer Mill at Island City where he was employed for a number of years. Ho also worked at tho La Grande Flouring mill which is owned by the same company. From here' ho went to Seattle and Tacoma, Wash., and then to Reno, Nev., where he fol lowed the same trade. Because of 111 health he was forced to give up his position and return to Union coun ty, where he operated the vld home place known as the Midway farm on the Island City highway which Is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wil liams. Ho accepted a position as head gardener at Hot Lako'whero ho worked for five or six years. His father passed on March 20, 1026; ho was married to Ethel Moore and this happy union was cut too short b ytho sudden death of one of sterling quality, generous to it fault and Interested In everybody's welfare. Those that have had per sonal contact with him aro the ones that know him best and appreciate the friendship of such a fine char acter which Is never forgotten and lives always in one's memories. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his passing ono sister, Mrs. Betty Kohr, of Boise; three brothers.
