Miller, daughter ot John Miller, of Cove, reoelved av distress ing Injury to her hand and spent a day In the hospital here last week. This small patient astonished all who saw her by the smiling courage with which she met her pain. Dr. Ray Murphy, ot La Grande, who lc suffering from a painful attack of acute arthritis, Is steadily Im proving. Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Miller, of La Oranae, accompanied by Miss Muriel McKlnley, teacher of English In a Los Angeles high school, paid a visit to friends in the hospital, ou. Monday evening. On- Thursday evening, Miss Helen Moor, Bess Duke, Lois. Nelson and Dorothy Eberhard, all of La Grande, paid a visit to friends at the sana torium. Mrs. Dorothea Johns recently had a brlet but Interesting trip to Yellow stone pari;. In driving to Idaho Falls for- her son, Robert, she added, two days to the trip and included the park. Joe Murphy, accompanied by his sister, Miss Winnlfred Murphy, of Lou Angeles, and Miss Jesse DeViney and Miss Kathleen O'Rourke, of Hot Lake, &penfc the weekend at Spokane and vicinity. Two old; friends of the. anna tori unit Mrs.. Fred Deno and Mrs. M McCon neJi, of- Caldwell, who. had formerly tipent; many months at this place, made a brief call in passing. Mrs. Deno was on. her, way. to. Wallowa lake and. Mrs. McConnell was re turning from her son's graduation f,rom Idaho State college at M.scw, If the days are too hot for pic nicking, there is another way. to. man age and that Is to use the evenings. A very pleasant occasion of this kind yas a' picnic given by ' Mrs. Casper and the day nurses, Miss O'Rourke, Miss Clara Fries, " Mrs. Ethel Cahill, Miss C. RJordan, Mrs. Helen Yard strom, and Miss Jesse DeViney in honor of two sanatorium guests, Mrs Murphy, ot Nam pa. and Miss Norma Glsent of Honolulu. The group left abputr 7:3p.- and motored to ly lovely spot on Catherine creek, knpwn as Presbyterian Flat where they spread their evening meal and later, sat around; a bonfire telling stories and eating watermelon, until a late hour. They returned well pleased' with the success of their patty, although not even one "mere. mon' had been per mitted, to Join their ranks. Mr. and. Mr. W. R. Miller, of- Spo kane, are . at tho. sanatorium resting and taking baths. Mr. and Mrs. Mil ler arc friends of Ellis.. Hale, of Wal lace, who is, ty frequent visitor, and patient at this place. L. J. Skaggs of; the. Skagg? Stores, in Portland, spent a few days, at he sanatorium. He was accompanied by. his friend, Geo, Wi Jackson. They are both enthusiastic golfers and like, many other sanatorium, guests, found; much pleasure at La. Grande's coun try club. Ms. Skaggs. planB to. re turn soon for an extended course of Mrs. H. K. O'Brien's many friends.
