from the La Grande lodge attended
the meeting of the Union Eastern
Star. - !

Cochran, of La Grande, past worthy
grand patron: Mrs. Helen Dtllman,
grand Adah, of Burns; Mrs. Elslo Mil
ler, of Enterprise, grand Martha.
Mrs. White held inspection in the
afternoon and in the evening the
Grande Ronde valley chapter. No. 40,
of Union, exemplified the ritualistic
work with 65 members and visitors
present.
Refreshments were served at the
close of the meeting.

ing Italy, supported by all the news
papers. The dallies are twirling contests
among their readers to form new
Italian words as substitutes for for
eign words In everyday use.
The success obtained by the word
"autlsta" lmfH of "chauffeur Is
encouraging the campaign.
The American visitor to Italy
would be dismayed by the meaning
given some of the English words
which the Italians wish to banish.
"Tight.'" for Invtanre. does not
mean "closely drawn or fastened,"
but a morning coat. Track" means
a full-dress, or tails, coat. "Smok
ing" does not mean what It seems
to, but a tuxedo suit.
"Cylinder" does not mean a "solid
round body -whose ends are equal
