American citizens, regarded at feast by themselves as the
most enlightened and advanced peop5e in the world, are wit
nessing one of the grimmest batties of the decade in the
United States courts this year a battJe upca which the
future social welfare of the nation is dependent.
The battle is that of Alphonse Capone, super-racketeer,
against our government ; and, to the everlasting credit of the
