Alpha Club Meets At the La Grande One of the most interesting events of Thursday evening was the bridge dinner at which Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Perkins entertained members of the Alpha club at the La Grande hotel at 7 o'clock. The guests were seated at one large table which had a cen terpiece of flowers. L. Stoddard entertained yesterday afternoon at a 1 o'clock luncheon for the Jolly Bridge club at the La Grande hotel. Twelve were In vited for the afternoon. The luncheon table was attractive with a centerpiece of cut flowers. Guests to make up three tables play ed bridge during the afternoon with Mrs. Nate Zwelfel receiving the prize for high score; Mrs. Arthur Sanford, second; and Mrs. Clark Webb, guest. Mrs. M. A. Harrison will be the next hostess In two weeks. Bridge Party At Christensen Home A group of the younger married set was entertained by Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Christensen at an evening of I bridge last night at their home, be ginning at 8 o clock. Guests to make up four tables were invited, and Mrs. William Heughan and Leal Russell received the prizes for high score, William Heughan. received consolation and Otis Veal was awarded the guest prize. ..,, Mrs. Oscar Warnock wlU entertain the afternoon'club next Wednesday 'at her home, while Mr. and Mrs. Warren Gilbert will have the evening club In two weeks. t Refreshments were served by the hostess late in the evening. i Dance Recital At Sacajawea Inn With a stage of shining tinsel for a background, a group of La Grande dancers were presented in a recital last night at 8:15 o'clock at the Saca Jawea Inn by Miss Helen Mary Clark, instructor. The program consisted or a variety of numbers, Including group and solo exhibitions, j Jazz dances, spring dances, taps i and clogs were all Included on the ' program, In which Miss Dorothy Lee Reynolds, Gladys Roberts, Helen Jean Webb, Warren Dennlson, Evelyn Mc Kennon, Evelyn Newkirk, Jean Wet , zel, Arlo Nelderer, William Jackson, Ralph. Winters, Jacqueline. Jenkins, 1 Ruth Byers, Pern Hungerford, Lucille Hitt, Blllie Lern Lloyd, Miriam Powell and Orvallne McWUUams took port. Miss Clark presented a spring ! dance. Accompanying the dancers on ; the piano were Mrs. T. J. Jackson, j Mrs. Clyde Webb, Miss Janet Btngner, pianists. Miss Ava Williams, soprano. . 'Miss Eberhard Is ; Chairman at Dance $liSB Dorothy Ebefhord was recently the chairman -' of "a very successful Friday Saturday dance, which was attended by over 300 couples, at the. University of Ore gon. One of Eugene's leading hotels was the. scene of the event. The dance was given as an event of "sen ior leap week," an annual week dur ing which the senior women "date" the senior men and pay the bills. The dance was given by Mortar Board, senior honorary organization for college women who have par ticipated in social and school activi ties and yet maintained a high scholastic standing. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold Bennett Hall were among the guests of honor at the event. Miss Eberhard will graduate In June. Baker, Pendleton Women To Attend A number of members of Baker and Pendleton divisions of the American Association of University Women, are expected to accept the invitation ex tended by the La Qrande women, and to attend the play day luncheon which is to be given Saturday at 12:30 at the La Grande hotel. The officers of the local branch are ar ranging a program which Is to in clude the presentation of "The Boor," (Tschekoff ) by Sock and - Buskin, dfamatlc society of the Eastern Ore gon Normal school. For reservations, La Grande mem bers should notify Mrs. Norman Frees at once. . ' Honor Guests At Afternoon Party Complimenting her house guests, Mrs. Kermlt McCully entertained Tuesday afternoon. Those honored were Mrs. James Rose wall. Mrs. Ruby Chrisman, Mrs. R. B. Stone and Mrs. Asa Eggelson, all of Enterprise. Her home was attractively decorated with spring flowers and balloons. Bridge was played during the after noon, and Mrs. Rosewall received the prize for high score; Mrs. Fern Thom as, second; and Mrs. Chrisman. con solation.. The rooms were attractively decorated with a .profusion of apple blossoms. Bridge was played during, the af ternoon With Mrs. Ezra Holman mak ing high score, and Mrs. Wlrth, low score. Mrs. Wlrth alBo received the attendance gift. Luncheon was served late in the afternoon by the hostess. A spring motif was also carried out in the luncheon. Mrs. Holman will entertain the club In two weeks. . Miniature Club ... Meets Thursday . The Miniature club met yesterday with Mrs. C. F. Wallace at 2 o'clock for an informal afternoon. ,The guests Bewed and two contests ' were staged, in which Mrs. Adam Cyr and Mrs. Dick Lanyon were the winners. Refreshments were served by the hostess at the close of the afternoon and it was announced that Mrs. Fred Yeske will entertain next Thursday. Mrs.- Ross Eaton Entertains Club Mrs. Ross Eaton entertained Thurs day evening at her home for eight members of the U-go I-go club. Swastika Members Meet Wednesday The Swastika club was entertained Wednesday night by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Leonard at their home with guests invited to make up three tables for bridge. Frizes were received by Mrs. Clarence Green and George Tiss. Refreshments "were served at small tables placed about the rooms which were decorated with spring flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nowland are to entertain the group in two weeks. ' Fifty-Fifty Club Is Entertained Spring flowers furnished an attrac tive setting for an event of Thursday evening, when Mrs. H. G. Hale enter tained the Fifty-Fifty club at her home at 8 o'clock. Prizes at pinochle were received by Mrs. Dick Burnett and Mrs. Henry Hagey. Late In the evening refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Ed. McMamis will entertain the club In two weeks. Mrs. Smith Hostess At Dinner Party ' Mrs. Howard Smith was hostess Thursday at her country home at a chicken dinner In honor of the mem bers of the Friendly Corner club. The table was decorated with a center piece of spring flowers, and places were arranged for 10 guests. The afternoon was spent In needle work and conversation, and light re freshments were served at the close or the affair. Must Explain Attack by Lioness CINCINNATI, O., May 1 WV-William Harwood. animal trainer and lecturer, was asked to. appear before j superintendent or schools E. D. Roberts today to explain his version of a lioness' attack upon Vivian Leischner, six-year-old school . girl, yesterday. Harwood also was told to bring the animal wLich he owned, with him for examination for rabies. The little girl, with more than a soore of stitches In her scalp and scratches on her back, was reported recovering. Her condition was not regarded critical. She had to hasten back to the city for a tea engagement so she swapped her boat for Bryan's automobile and the boy came back on the Sequoia. Ho Bpent most of the time below watching the machinery.
