Mrs. Norman Frees wrote a play for the occasion, "The New Vision," which was presented -by a group of pupils under the direction of Miss Blanche Speers and Miss Effie Snider. The part of the modern mother was play ed by Helen -Melville, while Bobby Rogenson played the part of the 11-year-old boy, and Frances Singleton, the nine-year-old girl. Lyda Mae Hollister was portrayed in the part of the club leader, and Sylvia Hodgen was the elderly lady. Other characters were: Ila Mae An drews. Georgeanna Lock wood, Ella Engle, Vera Mae Ward, Ester Davis, Nations throughout the state in Joseph Feik, Mary Frees, Justine Cabe, beautifying Oregon's natural scenery. and making tne state a drawing pow er for the tourists. Have Evening Meet The La Grande branch ol the Am erican Association of University Women is looking forward to the March meeting which will be held on Friday evening of next week, March 6, in place of Saturday which would be the regular meeting day. At this dinner, the local organiza tion will have as Its honored guest, Mrs. Florence Payne ' Johnson, of Portland, state president of the A. A. U. W, Mrs. Johnson Is making her official tour of visitation and at this time will be in Eastern Oregon,- the gueBt at Baker on Thursday La Grande on Friday and Pendleton on Saturday. This will be the state president's first visit in the Blue Mountain territory and her hostesses are planning the days eo that she may see as much as possible of our beautiful country. Add rest of Ingredients and beat two min utes. Pour Into waxed-paper-lined shallow pan. Bake 95 minutes In moderate oven. This cake can be frosted or served plain. Music Group Meets Wednesday Evening The meeting of the Neighborhood Music club will not be held next Monday ovening, because of the con cert at the high school for which the Rainbow girls are sponsors. Miss Hilda Anthony has arranged to give her program on "Music of Spain" on Wednesday evening at 7:30 In the gold room of the La Grande hotel. 1-3 teaspoon salt 'a teaspoon pepper 4 cups water 3 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons flour 2 cups flour Mix vegetables, seasonings and wa ter. Cover and cook slowly 40 min utes. Melt butter and all flour, when blended add milk and cook until creamy sauce- forms. Add to the vegetable mixture and cook two min utes. Serve in warm bowls. IMirhesfl Ham 1 slice ham, 2-3 inch thick (about pounds) i teaspoon powdered cinnamon 18 cup flour 2 cups diced pineapple and Juice 12 whole cloves Wipe off ham with damp cloth. Stuff with cloves and sprinkle with cinnamon and flour. Pit into baking pan. Cover with pineapple. Cover and bake 1J4 hours in very slow oven.
