Starmer, pastor of the Methodist -Church South, at the Greenwood Parent-Teacher associa tion meeting yesterday afternoon at the school building at 2:30. One of the Interesting features of the after noon was the attendance prise pic ture which was awarded to Mrs. Beatrice Young's room with a total of 22 parents present. They will ksep the picture for the coming month. - Hot Lunches have been served each noon since Jan. 6, Mrs. Nell Thacker reported, and they will continue to serve them until the -end of the stormy weather. Plans were discussed for the usual supervision by the as sociation of the book exchange for the opening of the new. semester. The exchange will be open on Jan. 26 and 27 with Mrs. Jack McGhean, Mrs. G. Ws Ferdlnandson, and Mrs. J. K. Chqrlton in charge. Mrs. Harley Richard son gave a resume of the opera sea son which will be held In Portland .in the spring, touching on the musi cal productions which are to be given during the four days. , Mrs. Hardle Taylor will have the group at her home for a business meeting on February 6 at 2:30, and also the evening of the same day at 6:30 o'clock at one of the local ho tels, the place to be set later. Hus bands of the members will be tho honored guests at the dinner. ,.-.- Mrs. Kiddle Gives Delightful Party Mrs. Clyde Kiddle's home was the scene of a delightful party yesterday afternoon when the L and L club met for an afternoon of bridge. Mrs. Joe Harrison won the prize for the highest score. Mrs. Kiddle served re freshments to her guests late in the afternoon. Mrs. A. E. Mrs. Frank Hanson will entertain at a one o'clock luncheon at her home on Feb. 6. , Friday Afternoon Club In Session The Friday Afternoon club was en tertained at tho home of Mrs. Harry McCarthy yesterday at an afternoon of bridge. Mrs. Henry Hill won high est honors. Late ln tho afternoon refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. L. M. Hoyt will be hostess for the club ln two weeks. - Mrs. C. H. Devine Hostess at Bridge Mrs. Charles H, Devine entertained yesterday with an afternoon of bridge and a handkerchief shower for Mrs. R. W. Anderson, who is leaving soon to make her home in Boise. Following cards refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Roy Grice will entertain the group in two weeks. Vedders Entertain Friends At Party Mr. and Mrs. W. Vedder invited a group of their friends at an evening of cards yestorday at their home. Mrs. Fred Young made high score, and Edward Prouty received the consola tion. Refreshments were served by the hostess at a late hour. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Young will en tertain the group at their home next Friday. Victory Program Given By W. C. T. U. The Victory day program presented by the Women's Christian Temper ance Union last night at the Christ ian church proved to be one of the most interesting programs on prohi bition and the eighteenth amendment presented ln La Grande. Mrs. Walter Pierce, who has been active in pro hibition work, told how citizens may help to enforce the law; Mrs. L. Faus discussed, "Why I Observe the Law," and Mrs. N. E. Hershey. of Island City, pointed out the fallacy of re peal. Other numbers . on tiie program were: "Temperance Dolly," sung by a group of girls from the Church of Christ; and a playlet. "Before and After the 18th Amendment." which was presented by a group of children. A group of boys from the Metho dist church sang "John Barleycorn Wants to Come Back." Mrs. Bertha Smith led the devotionals. They plan to meet on- Jan. 27 in the dining room of the Odd Fellows temple. Meeting ' Since the American ideal of civic life Is based first on the morality of the Individual who Is a unit of the community, which Is In turn a unit of the city,' and so on until every individual becomes a part of the na tion; any fault of the government is not the fault of the administration but of tho Individual, Judge H. E. Brady declared when he spoke at the Rlverla Parent-Teachers association meeting yesterday afternoon at the school. . This Is citizenship month for the national P.-T. -A., and the talk was a part of the local program of citi zenship. Judge Brady believes that people are prone to let the government take care of Itself, while they read the re sults In the newspapers. Every per son should keep in mind that the distinction which the American gov ernment has from other governments is that the civil power is the ulti mate power vested In the people. "So they are; so will be their govern ment," he believes. - A program of patriotic songs was sung, and a report of the study club, of which Mrs. Bergen Is chairman, was made. A. on January 23 at the Recreational hall, were made at a meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers yester day afternoon with Mrs. Jack Hiatt. Mrs. B. F. Gwllllam was assistant hostess. All M. I. A. organizations In the stake are Interested in the green and gold ball which Is one of the most Important events of the season. Refreshments were served by the hostess late in the afternoon.
