Page Five QJDCAIL EKIIIEIFjr Summer In Montana 4 Mr. and Mrs. Howard Miller and two children left yesterday morning for Montana to spend a few weeks vacation at their summer home. Mr. Miller arrived In La Grande from San Francisco the last of the week,' and spent a few days at the H. E. Coo lldge home. Two Liquor Cases Two cases were tried in Justice 'court this morning, both on liquor charges, and the del end ants were con victed. In each case. R. Stanfleld, La Grande negro, paid a fine of $50 for '.. possession, and a man, whose name ' is withheld at the request of District -Attorney Carl Helm, paid a similar line on a liquor charge. To Portland Mr. and Mrs. August Zaugg have gone to Portland where he will be a patient in the Veterans hospital for the treatment of a broken leg, suffered several weeks ago. Left Early Today Mr. and Mrs Claude Berry left early this morning on the train for Atlantic City, N. J., where Mr. Berrv I will attend the national convention of the Elks lodge as a delegate. They expect to be gone about four weeks and will probably return home the first of August. vgerk Votlne Precinct A delegation from Palmer Junction t appeared before the county court to day, at the opening of the two-day .. July session, and asked that the voting precinct be re -established 'there. No action has been taken as yet. The remainder of today was occupied with auditing bills. County : Judge U. G. Couch and Commis sioners W. R. Ledbetter and W. W. Stevens were all present. Visiting Here j. Johnson, of Iowa, is visiting his : sister, Mrs. W. V. Gustlson, at the Grande Ronde apartments for about a week. , From Cove Mrs. Mlnnette Sentner, of Cove, transacted business yesterday in. La Grande. From Salem Mrs. George Tcacy and her daugh- ter and son, from Salem, stopped In La. Grande last night en route to yellowstone park. Miss Margaret : Tracy visited at the home of. Miss Virginia Warnlck, and the others were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George 1 Blrnle. The Tracy's are qulto well ': known In La Grande. To Yellowstone Mr. and Mrs. John Stoddard left this morning on a ten days trip to Yellowstone national park. They are travelling by auto. New Mn linger Mrs. Thelma Cochrane, of Port land, who has been in La Grande since June 15, Is new manager of the Cinderella shop in place of Miss Helen Dnhlvang. From Portland W. E. Maben, of Portland, was In La Grande Tuesday on business. . Itetiirned From Trip Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Craig have re-' turned from a week spent In Van couver and Kalama, Wash., visiting relatives. They made the trip by auto. Arrived Today Mrs. George Morton and two child ren, Prank and Robert, of Vancouver, Wash., arrived in La Grande this morning on No. 24. They will visit her father. J. H. Allen, of Cove, for a month or two. To Flora " Miss Hazel Evans Is driving to Flora to spend the-weekend with her par ents. Miss Evans is a student at the Eastern Oregon Normal school. Passed Away In Tucoma Mrs. Henry Buchholz. of 814 South Sise street, Tacoma, Wash,, sister of Mrs. Prank Hanson, of this city, passed ' away at. a Tacoma hospital on June 30. Mrs. Buchholz had been suffering of pneumonia. She was a former resident of La Grande and has many friends here. To the Lake Mr. and' Mrs. W. L. Hoyt and son, Harold; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones and son, Ned, and Mr. Hoyt's brother, C. C. Hoyt. of Walla Walla, Wash are leaving tomorrow night fnr Wal lowa Lake where they will remain over Fourth of July. Shepherd and family will move Into their new home at the corner of Fourth and Penn sylvania streets Thursday. This Is the former home of Mr. and Mrs. Audmer Playle. Small Fire The fire truck was called to 705 A avenue, the home of Mrs. Ackley, at 1:20 o'clock this afternoon. A fire, caused by a defectlvo flue, caused some minor damage In the kitchen and attic, which was covered by Insurance. Weekend Trip Mr. and Mrs. Ira Howell, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Lamb and Mrs. Lamb's sister, Mrs. Don Lester, of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank George are planning a weekend trip over the Fourth of July In the mountains near Catherine creek. They will leave early Friday morning. To Elect Delegates Delegates to the state convention of the American Legion at Baker will be elected tonight at the regular meeting of the local post at 8:30 o'clock In the Sacajawea Inn. Roy Currey will be In charge of the meet ing as tonight is past commander's night. The drum and bugle corps will practice from 7 until 8 o'clock at the high school athletic field pre ceding the lodge meeting. Returned The Rev. Frank Hopkins, pastor of the South Methodist church and his son. Earl, and Dennis Elam. re turned Monday night from Corvallis whero they attended the South Meth odist annual conference. Mr. Hop kins was reappointed pastor to serve his church until October at which time ho will be transferred to Okla homa to attend a conference Tho place in Oklahoma is to be decided at a Inter date. To Weston Mrs. Henry Hlckey and Hazel Withey are leaving tomorrow night for Weston, Ore., where they will re main over the Fourth of July visit ing with Mrs. -Hlckey's bbrother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Collier.
