Ilal-lial-Tlos-Hot, (called Chief
Lawyer because of Ills skill us an
orator) occurred June 3, J 855.
There were five thousand Indians
gathered on the site of Walla Wal
la, the tribes including Cay use,
Umutllla, Walla Walla, Yuklniu,
Spokane, Klickitat und the Nez
lVrces. Tho other tribes wore

weapons, while the 2,000 Nez l'er
ces wero sincere. The council was
culled to persuade tho tribes east
of the Cascades to uccept the res
ervation policy. On June 3, Chief
Lawyer discovered a plot of tho
