John lo:'.'7, I'X. We all mtike troulilo and llien wonder why we have it. As often as one gets something for nothing one gets noth ing for something. Pure recklessness is the only reason that presents itself why some persons marry. . It doesn't cost so very much to start in business now. Ten dollars will buy a fairly good sucker list. . , STILL IMPORTANT , It would seem that the age-old route to a man's heart hasn't changed niych since the day when Eve stirred up the original batch of applesauce. In spite of the array of titles in modern periodicals which suggest 57 varieties of occupa tions in which women may demonstrate their ability, and seventy times seven cosmetic intrigues with which to endear themselves to the sons of, Adam, the space devoted to food continues to increase. A glance through any woman's magazine will reveal that as much time is being spent in finding a new way to serve the bacon that the modern Cains and Abels bring home as is granted any other field of feminine activity. Interest in house furnishings is centering more and. more in the kitchen, also. If women have a favorite recipe for success it probably contains the ingredients for ginger-bread or blackberry tarts. NOTHING IS "FREE" . A card on a free towel case where the public is permitted gratuitously to wash its hands reads, "Why us two towels when one wipes dry ?" That is a question worth considering with respect to all "free" things. The unthinking say, "Use all you want of that, it is free." Hut only the selfish and unthinking will so reason. There are few things in this world that are free in the sense of being without cost. Somulxidy pays for the towels; somebody pays the man who brings the towels and puts them into the case; somebody pays for every service, else the servant cannot continue to serve. . And when careless people trample the grass or raid the flower beds or damage the benches in the parks, or deface the walls of public buildings or waste or misuse other things that are offered freely for public use and enjoyment, every body must pay. The wrong and injustice is not less because the cost of the carelessness and waste is spread widely. &&L. Come! ! 'AGRICULTURE IS Abe MarlkT") !
