Panlagcs now says ho got a "raw deal" from the jury. That is always the refuge of the poor sport and the guilty. The troubles of the stock market are serious for financial centers and for those poor sups who thought they were "investing" on margins. Mut it may have a very beneficial effect for the rest of the country by releasing call money and speculator's funds for legitimate business purposes. The advance in stocks had made money tight in business. The decline should make it much more plentiful when the new level hns been 'stabilized. AN ELECTION WILL DECIDE Various questions of interest to those residing in the districts immediately adjoining present city limits have been brought to the attention of The Observer during the last few days. An investigation of them ieads us to believe that the extension project can do no serious injury to more than a very few objectors and that it would bring marked benefits , to the majority of the people both inside and outside the existing boundaries. ,. , The matter of several di.slricts 'voting on the question sep arately has been discusseU luiUthci'.so who have determined the district Hunts point out ffiaTortions bfYTOSwte ably dense in population and that the exclusion of any one section will endanger the degree of growth which the com munity wishes to' show, that to take in pal t and leave out pari, wouia again lend lo provide city facilities for outside ureas that do not lend co-operation in return. One district as called forty ,lhe present petition may work a sirmll hardship oil. a limited nunnber if the district votes to come in, but that hardship is negligible and seems lo be one that cannot bo avoided. Regarding the matter of agricultural land included in the proposed district one and two-acre tracts The Observer is informed through the assessor's office that no increase in assessed valuations would result in any case by inclusion within the corporate limits of the city. An acre of ground now assessed at ?2I0 would still be assessed at $200 and the increase in taxation would be a. little over four dollars a year to meet the municipal levy. To offset this would bo wider and sewer service, street nminennnoo, induced rates Tor electric. ty, insurance, water. In matters of economy, the k ,u.br.i woui.i mm Doing in the city no more ex pensive and much more convenient as municipal services were installed. Many of then would make marked savings by coming in. Whether or not the majority r t10 people in lhc ,,,,,, extension area vote to come in remains to be seen. No one can object having the subject voted on and a decision reached one way or he other. That is the purpose of the petit i to bo presented to the city commission, which, accord i g Tho Observer is thoroughly in favor of seeing the election lie. I. LOS ANGELES MR.Ai.vAMiTCHptiwho farms near Winamac.Indiana, climbed don off his disc harrow for a drink of water. His'team, frightened at something, started a runaway, the heavy harrow banging and bumping over the ground. He cut across the field to head them off, grabbed for one horse's head and tripped! As Mr. Mitchell tells it in his letter: "Just that morning I had bought a pair 6f;Oshkosh B'Gosh Overalls at Haas's at Winamac and luckily I had them on. When I grabbed for that horse's head I fell but my Oshkosh B'Gosh Overalls caught on the tongue and held me suspended. For a hundred feet I was carried between two plunging horses and ahead of the neavy disc. Then the disc hit a gate. , I was knocked loose. The smashed gate post raised the disc just enough to let it pass over me and I escaped with a few bruises. Had I not been wearing Oshkosh B'Gosh Overnlls I claim that I might not be here today to tell this story." Signed, Ai.va Mitchell. -. . Laboratory tests show that Oshkosh B'Gosh Overalls are made of the strongest, toughest, longest-wearing cloth made. Experiences such as Mr. Mitchell's, where the greatest test of all is made by a powerful, plunging, half-crazed team, prove its strength beyond question. Social bunders aren't so terribly serious. We can live them down in time. But, good gracious! it's hard to be nonchalant when' you've made a financial blunder. That kind of blunder looks a lot bigger and it surely is bigger when you've failed to pay attention to your fire insurance. You just can't afford to take chances you HAVE to be sure.
