After Long Trip
LAKKMURST. NY J.. Aug. 21
(AP) The Cnited States navy diri
gible Los Angeles returned to its
hangar today after a tin and a
half hour flight over Central New
Jersey.
While In flight the dirigible
practiced picking tip and releasing
an aeroplane. The plane, piloted
by Lieutenant A. W, Gordon of
the navy was caught by a wire
hung from the stern of the Los
Angeles, which connected with a
hook on top of the plane.
Flying at the same speed as that
of the Los Angeles the, pilot
brought his plane into position un
der the stern of the great airship
ami swung the hook on his wing
Into the U shaped wire attachment.
The propeller of the plane was con
tinued in motion to prevent the
tall from dropping. This difficulty
will be surmounted by attaching
another hook to the tall of the
plane and another yoke further
bark on the, dirigible, it was ex
plained. After flying together for several
minutes the plane was cut loose
from the airship as the pilot drew
the hook from the yoke and swung
ills craft toward the ground.
The test was made in accordance
with Lieutenant -Commander Her
bert V. Wiley's project to develop
tho scheme until as many as six
planes can be carried at one time,

tion of taking tho Los Angeles up
