There's not one spot of's-recn irruss near the businesH district that is public prop erty and available for visitors or valley shoppers to utilize for a few minutes' rest. Power is passing into ' his hands 'more and more rapidly; he can affect the condi-i tions of daily life for whole nations in a way no one else am. The Magazine of , Wall. Street recently printed an article that proves this contention. : It was an article about Henry I Ford, telliiia how he is exiuindintr his holdino-u miH niwintlnn I bi order to build cars in Europe on a large scale; and per haps without intending to is demonstrated forcibly the way in which a man like Ford can influence a nation's whole life. Determined to capture the foreign market, Ford is build ing a huge factory on the outskirts of London. It will cost $25,000,01)0, will produce 200,000 em's n year und will be the largest auto factory in the world outside of the United States .when it is finished. To win good will, Ford is organizing this venture into a stock company and selling the stock to the Uritish people. Ho is hiring British workmen and buying British materials and the workmen, incidentally, are get ting the regular Ford wages. At least 25,000 men will be hired. On a slightly smaller scale, the same thing will be done iu other countries. Factories will Imj established, workmen will lie hired and, little by little, the scale of American wuges, and tho reaping by local investors of healthy Ford dividends, will begin to have an effect. rora, or. course, Is not altmo in this sort of work. General Motors is doing precisely the same thing, starting in Ger nuiny instead of England. Other companies doubtless will follow suit. Tho results cannot fail to have an extremely beneficial effect on the European economic situation. ,The point of all of this is that it proves so plainly the im mense power wielded by the industrialist. In the next few decades millions of Europeans will find their living conditions vastly changed because of what a few American manufactur ers have done. It is somewhat doliatable whether they will be actually improved. l't I'm lln Your , ' LANDSCAPING A full Hue or 'lit i.i :s and NiniriiK I'lll'IT Tlti:i:s anil HliltltY l'l,AXTS .
