Products -rhich mut be shipped east where prices are easily affect ed by changes In buslneM condi tions may meet a leas satisfactory demand toward the last of 3929 and early 1920. Cash Income from Oregon farms Is likely to exceed In 1929 the esti mated 12U.Oyo.OO'for ms, says the reports Average lncotow per farm Is expected to remain ap proximately the same as for the past year, but farms are increas ing about In proportion to .total income. t "Until the tariff on tUx fiber is high enough to protect the farmer. there Is no Incentive to grow fiber flax except under contract to the elate of Oregon, in so far a pres ent conditions are concerned. ays the farm crops section of the report. As inspection shows that much corn Is shipped In each year. It Is evident that the home demand for corn grain is ample to absorb the Intended Increase of about ltt per cent In corn for grain. A strong demand for bay In 1929 In the outlook as the crop in 1928 was not large. Potato Plans Oregon farmers Intend to plant about 11 per cent less acreage of potatoes In 1929 than in 192K, pre dicts the report. With the Intend ed acreage there would be no shortage-of market potatoes In 1929-90 If averse ylelda are- se cured. "Transportation coats are unfav orable to Oregon orchardlsts," says the report. "Standardization of fruit for market is becoming more important. As for apples, no in crease in tonnage is expected with in the next five years. Increased plantings of apples in Oregon ap pear to be justified only when needed for replacement or when especially favorable conditions of production and marketing are en joyed. A general curtailment of plantings of pears on the Pacific I coast seems desirable. Additional plantings of pears will likely be warranted only in those looallllcs 'in which high quality pears can be grown profitably at prices consider ably below the average of recent years. An increase In plantings should undoubtedly be In canning cherries for western Oregon and of, shipping for eastern Orfgon."
