Hhortly afterwards Mr. Hill was elected president of. the com; mission, a position he has held con tlnuouHly for the lost four years. ' Mr. Gilbert baa been in office since H. B. C'oburn moved to Wash ington state, filling the former commissioner's unexpired term. Mr. Gilbert did not seek election last fall. Both Mr. Hill and Mr. Playle praised blm for his efforts on the city commission and ensured him jthat It Had been a- pleasure to work with him during the last sev eral months. ; ..- :v '. Crews city manager for the hurt four years, and, as no other nom inations were made, Mr. 1)111 asked City Recorder J. IS. Htcurn's to call Jhe roll. Mr. Hill said: "I cast my vote for Mr, Crews," Mr. Playle said: "Yea." and Mr.' Melville said "No," Receiving two of the' three votes. :Miv Crews was declared re appointed. . Following the organisation, radio acrluls came to the front when l-'red Hennlng, of the West 'Coast Telephone compuny, pointed out that many radio owners had aerial wires attached to public Utility poles In disregurtl of an ordinance that prevents this practice. He said that the practice was hazard ous, to the company and to the public as well, stating that injuries und I ok a of IKe might result. , He. asked that a city ordinance, passed In ISiiS, and taking cure of this matter, bo enforced for the pro tection of all concerned. Support ing Mr. Henning's statements, Gene Walker, of the Kustcrn Ore gon Light & Power company, em phasised the danger of the prac tice, stating that several deaths in the east had resulted from broken wires coming In contact with aerials attached to utility poles. The city commission agreed to take care of the matter and on motion, decided to publish the or dinance in The Observer so that the public may become acquainted with Its provisions, Afterwards, steps will be tuken to enforce the ruling. Tho ordinance carries a penalty of from $5 to $100 in fines, it also provides tthat persons must take out permits, which are given fi-ee, from the city recorder before installing aerials.
