Cm. n mu mna. mc , Bridge Pointers By Milton O. Work OONTItACr B1UDG12 Yesterday, In tho discussion of "following" bids, tt was pointed out that when an 'original No Trump bid has been made, tho next player Is apt to bo tho initial lend er if Ills opponents get tho con tract, und that consequently his fol lowing bid 'would not u0 11 11 1 to kavo any loud directing value. With an Initial Major bid, tho probabil ities once again nro that If tho stdo of tho original bidder obtain tho contract, It will bo In tho first named and that Second Hand will bo the original leader. But aftor an Initial Minor bid tho chances are that tho Third Hund will chango tho declaration and Fourth Hand will be tho original lender. Therefore when ono of a Minor Is bid initially, the following bid Is likely to be of great value as a lead director, und 1t uUo may bo of en ormius value by shutting out a No Trump bid by Third Hand. Another Important question to consider In Contract is vttiether tho bid following adverse suit-bid may be made by a call of ono or wheth er It necessitates a call of two. It seems wise to adopt tho conven tion that when bids following ad verse suit bids aro made with less strength than Is roqulred for nn In itial suit-bid, they should bo limit ed to bids of one made over an, Initial Minor; and that all other following bids, Including ono Hpndo over ono Heart and two Clubs over one Diamond, should announce tho full strength required for an initial bid nt Contract. The' following examples will nmko Jills clour. ' ' No. I ?X-X-X XXX s XX Tn Contract with this holding by West.
