the. National Advisory Committee
for Aeronautics. .
Tho new motor utilizes virtually
non-inflammable Diesel oil, can be
constructed either as air-cooled or
water-cooled engine, and requires
neither carburetor nor electric Ig
nition for Its operation. . Such a
power plant has long been the.
dream of aeronautic engineers. Al
though it Is still In a one-cylinder
stnge of development, a multi-cylinder
model will bo ready for
flight tests within a year, and llttlo
Imagination Is needed to see the
possibility of attaching it to tho
automobile und motor truck.

fuel does not explode, but burns in
the common meaning of that word,

over long distances. The gasoline
motor, somewhat lighten per horse
power, retains advantages for uso
in small, light planes designed for
great speeds and exceptional quali
ties of maneuverability, but the oil
engine offers valuable factors of
increased safety, erfflclency and
economy for the heavier craft.
