equipped like thorn, they will jog along, setting up markers'
pt historic points on tho route and going through the mo
tions of re-living the experiences of the courageous men and
women who crossed the continent in wagon tmins lo selLle

these modern trail-followers imagine. History may repeat1
itself, but one may reasonably question whether 192!) can re
peal 1810 in this matter. Those ox-carts lire going to trav
erse some pretty good pavements, some of the way. There
will be no trackless wilderness to penetrate. lMcasanl farm
land with homes and sciioois and lives will greet the eye
here once were treeless prairies. There will be bridges to

'' It will be difficult for next spring's caravan lo gel away
from quick communication, from doctors, from stores, from
people. We have a hunch they will carry pocket flashlights

their predecessors. And when they reach their destination
it will be an established community, not the site for one. -
Nevertheless, it is good to have the courage of those first
.travelers recalled. They deserve all the historical markers
that can be set out along their routes. And the caravan will
