the Elgin Flouring Mill to Boston.
Previously they had a shipment of
four cars to Memphis, Tennessee,

APPLE SEASON ENDS
WITH 400 CARLOADS
SHIPPED TO MARKET
The apple season of J 927 hue
been closed, so far an Imbler, rec
ognised as the apple center of the
county, is concerned. One car load
of upples remained on hands until
the lust few weeks, when the own
ers decided to dispose uf them lo
cally. The season has been u long
one, but uccording to fruit growers,
has been u good one so far us qual
ity, price and murkotlng conditions
wore concerned.
It is reported, authoritatively,
that In the neighborhood of 400 car
loads of apples were shipped from
this county this season and this In
addition to those which were dis
posed of locally, or shipped out by
truck. Of this total, Imbler fruit
growers shipped 1 9(1 car loads, sus
taining their previous record of
producing cur for car with tho en
tire remaining sections of the coun
ty. The casual visitor In this lo
cality or the tourist driving
through Is not aware of the num
ber or si 7.e of the apple orchards
In this section, tho territory imme
diately surrounding Imbler, but u
few miles drive, or less than that,
from Imbler In almost every di
rection convinces one of tho shso of
this Industry.
Those who are in the game re
port that the 11127 crop was but
inbl
half a crop. Those who visited the
section during blossom or fruit sea
son will remember that things took
something of a curious turnt also.
Just beyond Imbler on the highway
the road on both sides Is lined with
splendid fruit bearing trees. This
year, on the right hand side of the
road us one is proceeding north
tho crop was a good one, on the left
hand side of the road thcro was
scarcely an apple.
According to E. J. Haen of the
O. W. It. A K who has been in
Imbler for a number of years, the
highest average season's shipment
-was 240 car loads.
For the most part fruit growers
of Imbler found their own markets
this year. The fruit has been ship
ped to every slate in the Union, ex
cepting those states lying east of
the Hudson river, and also except
ing Michigan. In four years, but
ono car load of upples has been dis
posed of In that state, and that, of
course, due to (he fact that Michi
gan Is, itself, an applegrowlug sec
tion. Every other slate euts Union
county, Oregon, apples.
High freight rales east of tho

keting of apples in the New Eng
land states. Only those apples go
beyond that line which are shipped
to the different points of embarks,-,
