Surely no typical Amer ican, of this or any oilier gnu-iMion, can want lo suppress freedom of thought and discussion, or hobble scientific in quiry and prog i ess. As for "teach in evolution." there is usually some doubt as tn what is meant by that phrase. If it means teaching in Ihe schools the dogmatic doctiine that man is descended from some particular type of niiimai, and insisting on belief in that doctrine, there is rihhI giound for objecting.
