Mrs. andeventer was but three years of nge when her father's family came across the plains to this valley. i -- j Celebrates riity-Sernlli ' AuiiHer-Hi'y Last Friday evening u very love- reception was tendered Mr. and Mrs. Olho Kclietsley who live in Cove, in honor of I heir fifty seventh wedding anniversary. The reception was held at the Metho dist church, the church and the Sunday school combining to thus honor then' faithful friends. About forty gathered for the evening ; which was pdu in a happy lash lion. An impromptu program was i given, three special numbers being 'a vocal solo "In The Cottage By The Sea" and a medley by Mrs. , l.ou l'ayne; a song by Mr. Keker slcy. "Dear Hearts that Never (irow Old." and also a ong by Mrs. j Kelicisley. These were ull favorite songn of long, long ago. Delicious refreshments wen- served at the close of what was. a most enjoyable evening. And In the days that have elapsed since the anniversary party, the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Kcker sley have been especially gltid for 11 because since that evening Mrs. i Kekersb y has b come very svrlous i ly 111 and has been taken to Hot Lake for treatment. Her condition -has become so grave that yester day members of her family were summoned to their mother's bed side. 0 ROYALLY BRED SKIMMED MILK IS BETTER FOR HENS THAN FOR SWINE "I have ulnuys claimed thatUbout 190U, the loss being very skimmed milk fed to chickens smull ua will readily be seen. Ilo would yield greater returns than U' i has been feeding tho chickens a it were fed to hogs. That seems prepared food, but wilt give wheat, like a broad statement but 1 will corn und silage this winter. This, believe it wilt bear out. 1 say it besides the skimmed milk. He after years of experience in the j Ib-wing that cows und chickens uro poultry business, having fed myjihe profitable- combination on any skimmed milk to the chickens and J farm, Mr. Sehoeder feels that lie is carefully watched the results." IxMllwiter, county road roinmls.sloner. was a statement made oy J-. Schroedor living just this side of Island City, and who bus u poultry farm this summer of considerable proportions. "One mistake made by those who I go into the poultry business," said Mr. Hchoeder, "is, that they want to go Into It on too largo a scale. They read (tf some such enterprise that la now firmly established and on a pa y I ng ba sis and the thing appeals to them. Then they urn lempted to go in too heavily. They way to go into the poultry business is to sturt with a very few chick ens, . then If successful, keep in creasing the number of fowls und enlarging the size of the plant, un til your business reaches the pro portions where it Is worth-while." Although Mr. Sehoeder is start ten acre place will not keep utoro cows. However, ho Is a firm be liever In silos und ralsca enough com und alfalfa on his place to flit his 21 -ton silo. Ho has at present rive cows, und this amount of an nuo wilt keep nix cows about six months. As slated above, Mr. Hchoeder believes It profitable to feed the milk to the chickens, even going to the extent of saying that he believes that the milk will go 5n per cent further If fed to chiclys thun to hogs. The present housing equipment on the Schroedcr place will not be large enough to tako caro of the flock In a short time and plans arc under wuy for Its enlargement.
