too much water in basements, streets, ami yards, and none
at all in private water pipes and fire hydrants, it is only
reasonable that the people of the city shoultf take piscaulions
against such a happening. The nornmi site improvement has
no threatening considerations -hut it is a relatively small
expenditure anil is looked upon as a civic duty to the state

A curious situation is said to exist in the Oklahoma oil
fields. The plcntitudc of oil in the United States and the low
prices of gasoline and other petroleum products are attributed
to overproduction in that state. Kverybody is puncturing the
oil-bearing rock ant! pumping the oil out.
Wherever a new field is found, everybody rushes in to help
empty it. Wherever a productive well is diilled, some neigh
bor drills another as close to it as possible. Supply exceeds

do the same thing with oil deposits in that country, eking
out the supply to meet national letjuiienn'iits for as long a
