Picture wire has never before been recognized as a lethal
weapon, but many a home has veen wrecked by picture-hanging.
' For a year and a half now, the world will he told what
various patriots would do if tlrt'y were president. And they
really think they would.

the man killed him, so it seems logical to eonclude that they
killed him. But one hardly expected a modern murder jury
to he logical.
It isn't the third term precedent that's bothering Coolidne
and delaying a statement as to whether or not he will be a
presidential candidate next year. It's the question of being
nominated and elected if he should decide to try for it.
NAVY MOVIKS
The t'niled Slates navy is said to be among the larg
est mving picture distributors in 'the woihf. ' It has gone
into this line as part of its program of entertainment for the
men on army and navy transports, with the fleets at sea
and at naval stations or other establishments. Movies are a
part of the daily routine in the navy. The Navy Motion Pic
ture Service now has 120(1 complete eight-reel pictures in
duplicate, l.0 in triplicate and 1M00 reels of short stories,
comedies and cartoons.
When a picture is released to the huge motion picture
theaters, the navy starts two prints of it on navy circuits.
Our ships in foreign waters have a feature picture fairly
soon after its release in the states. The service tries to pro
vide the pictures that are most popular with the men. fea
ture comedies aie said to head the list, followed by features
with .strong action factors and, third, the animated cartoon.
Theie is a little demand for news reels and short comedies,
but the bluejacket seems to prefer to see his news at first
hand. And he cares almost nothing for purely scenic films.
Along with its distribution of movies, the navy experi
ments on the mechanical side, seeking the best projector for
the purpose and studying other movie equipment. It trains
motion picture operators. I'.y laboratory experimentation,
navy scientists have developed a machine which has raised
the life of a film to I (Mill showings.
All of which may seem to lie considerably outside the
navy's real business, lint it helps to show how thoroirgh
I'ncle Sam is, once he starts anything. Sailors are entitled
to entertainment, in giving them good service, the govern
ment is as economical and inefficient as possible. Citizens
who pay the navy bill.; will haidly object to this providing
of popular recreation, especially when it is run on a large
and inexpensive .-rale.
