TOM HOOD'S poem swept over the world. It was one of the
first influences that made lawmakers and humanitarians and
m scientists see that women's lives arc too precious to be wasted in
the daily toil of routine tasks. .
Wise laws already have limited women's working hours. But
another kind or force has also been at work. ' THE GREAT
EMANCIPATOR IS ELECTRICITY.
No wise factory manager now asks any woman to 'do by
hand; the task that an electric motor can do.
