Junior operators licenses 'have been grunted to 15,000 children under 18 yeurs In this sluto. How ever, effective July 1, 126. the holder of a junior operator's lic ense will not be permitted to drive u motor vehicle ; within the limits of any city In the :tato. No applicant for such a license wilt ffct one unless his residence Is outside of a city limit. Tho reasons for tho strict re gulations relating to youthful driv ers are the many fatal . accidents which have resulted. Ten per cent of all accidents In which persons under 18 years of age were Invol ved resulted in death, while S per cent of all accidents for which persons over that age were respon sible resulted fatally. The greater number of acci dents involving persons under 18 years of ago occurred In cities : of the first, second and third classcn. A junior operation is Inclined to be a reckless driver or lacks the faculty of proper thinking in an emergency, according to an analysis. WAHHINGTON. U O. July 10. On tho basis of 1,748,000 world population for 1925. this meuiis that more than 24,000,000 persona aro automobile owners. , These figures, announced by the commerce department, revealed also that the United States lias the greatvM uumuer of automobiles and tho highest ratio of such, ve hicles to population, with ono to every six persons. Hawaii has ono to every 11 and Canada' one to 13. In the lower ratios Is found Af ghanistan, with ; one to 1,200,000 persons; Hvdjax , with only four cars, or ono for every 236,000; Abyssinia, : one to 133.893 '; and China with one for every 31.871 Inhabitants. Tho Ho I onion Islands, with 161,100 persons, has only two automobiles, while Liberia hus 54, or one for every 54,269. In 19 of tho 59 countries survey ed, at least 80 per cent of the au tomobiles owned were of American manufacture, whlh) In seven. Am-ertcan-mudo ears constituted 1 at least 80 per cent. .South American countries had the greater propor tion of American cars, while Ku ropean countries showed a much lower ratio. Construction on what Is called the Imnaha post road will be begun by the county shorty at Its west end. where it leaves tho highway and passes thru a point of ilund owned by J. A. Kggjeson, accord ing to a local ne'spuper. A com promise settlement of the right of way has been reached by tho coun ty and Mr. KekIl'Boii. Hu objected to the first location al the baHo of the hill immediately north of Prai rie creek, and ottered a atrip on the south sida of the creek, and this route will bo rollowod. The new .road will connect tho present highway with the county road which runs on to the Johnson und Franklin ranch, along tho east base of Pratt hill. Thcro Is $12,600 In the post road fund uvailable for tho road and this, ' II Is believed, will carry it past tho Johnson and Frankln buildings und up on the lovel ground to thu east. This will be a standard market road which will bo oxtonded as funds are avail able In future, yuurs to Zumwnlt und Imnaha. ; ' Working on Johnson Canyon The county roud crow Is still working in Johnson cunyou, tho route of the roud from Klk Moun tain to ' (.'row crook- und (Jlilco, again using post road funds, with some cooperation by tho forest service. Johnson canyon Is the route by which tho most direct roud goes to chico and the lower Chesnimus. It will bo possible .now to widen the grudo In places and even it up somewhat by cut ting off bumps and filling hollows. Otherwise not much cun bu done.
