Those who measure the future exclusively in the light
of the past are obviously in every walk of life. There are
men in business who can see no good m modern office meth
ods, in modem store equipment, or in modem advertising

ago without such things. There are men in agriculture who
pooh-pooh diversified farming, modem crop methods, and
increased production because such things were not done in
the "good old days." There are "men in industry who movo

, obsolete. There are mothers who think the young genera-
tion is going to the bow-wows because many habits of mod
ern life were unknown when they were young.
We are all more or less guilty because we lack the vision
with which to foresee and foretell a changing world and a
changing life. :-. The measure in which we can properly an
ticipate the future is now, more than ever, the modern
measure of success in human society. Ours Is a strife, not
to destroy the past and its influences, but rather a strife
that will make more rapid the coming of better things and
better influences in the future. .
