Tlic attack made on the chanicter of George Washing ton, one-time president of the United States, by nucrt Hughes, author, at a dinner given in the national capiuO recently has caused much comment and aroused to contradic tion the Sons of the American Revolution in that city. Mr. Hughes was the chief speaker at the dinner and siokc of the first president as follows: ; . Washington was a great card player, a distiller .of whisky and a champion career, and he danced for. three hours without stopping with the wife of his principal general. ,As for religious tendencies, .Washington never piaycd and consistently avoided participating in communion.
