Perhaps the reason for the htrger number of patents
here is a greater need for new inventions. Although fic
tion pictures the inventor us an impractical dreamer toy
ing with the unheard-of. the vast majority of all American
inventions are the fuUillnicnt of the needs of industry,
commerce and society. As the world's givatest industrial
country, with the world's largest railroad system and jrivitt
est number of automobiles, and as the country in which
machinery has been most highly develop! and most imi
veisally applied, the United St.ites ol'I'eis the most inspira
tion and highest reward for invention.
