The life of the average married woman today
demands a concentration on household matters that,
in the majority of cases, excludes any opportunity
for the continuation of the intellectual interest of
, college. The institute believes that such a conflict
should not be and proposes to find out how the
two may be harmonized. Jt believes that the 'first
step towards it solution of the problem is likely
to be found in the cooperative organizations that
would take over the fundamental mechanics of
housework. Accordingly, it will study the available
records of suclf organizations as the cooperative
laundry, kitchen, nuinery and home assistance
group in this country, and in Europe, and will
carry on experiments and demonstrations to pro
duce n standard type suitable for any community.
What unusual possibilities are presented bv Mich
idea! However unpractical the resulting recommendations
may appear, certainly the work of the institute will be in
teresting and will appeal to hundreds of college women
who have lost contact with the intellectual stimulus of
more youthful days.
