From recent editorials in the Pendleton East-Oregonian we would assume that Pendleton business interests have a case of the "blues." It is not a peculiar malady, especially -in agricultural communities such as theirs. There are sev , oral thousand cities similarly afflicted in the Middle West, ;but it's temporary. And, after all, business is good for 'those who mako it good. Business men not interested : enough to work for good business have no real alibi. Jy A Dartmouth college professor, in an address before .I.the Association of American Universities, says that our 1-eollcges are facing a crisis' brought on by their own succi&s,' that they are being flooded with students without discrimv filiating thought as to what they want or why they want .jt. This is a very true condition and constitutes n real education problem in itself. Many young people who have t;a serious desire for higher education are unable to realize ;it, to be sure, but thousands of students are enrolled in Jnir colleges, on the other hand, without proper appreciation Jfor their freedom and enjoyment that school days make jKissible. A proper culling process has not yet been devised. WORLD COURT ENTRY ASSURED. (J In spite of the continued opposition on the part of Soli citor Borah and a handful of other senators who are "agin the government" generally, there is every indication that ,-the entry of the United States into the World Court will .I realized during the next few months. Recent happen .ings in Europe have aided the court supporters and Presi dent Coolidge is expected to urge our entry ardently at the coming session of congress. v Senator Swanson, of Virginia, has taken a poll of the senate and roiwrU 1G members as opposed or doubtful at the most, while S3 votes against the court would be re quired to defeat our participation. It is the Virginia sen ator's resolution that will come up for a vote nt this session and ho is confident of success when the roll call is made around the first of the new year. In discussing the couit lie is quoted as follows: "I know of no episode in contem porary foreign relations that has enlisted so widespread and popular supixirt in America as the proposal that we should join the World Court. The churches are virtually a unit for it. Our great woman electorate roundly half of the nation's voting population is practically solid for it. lairrent events in Europe have immeasurably strengthenc. me world Court cause m the United States. The people have not failed to note that the Locarno peace pacts pro vide for eventual settlement by the World Court of differ ences between the contracting parties that are not adjudi cated by iirbitnl bodies provided in the parts tht nuoh : ;." It is this public sentiment that is making il.'. li' (. 't in the senate, as it should, and it is only a iio..::.u nf t:; .o until public opinion regarding the League r Naiiims will 1 r sufficiently reversed to bring about America's membership in that IkkI.v. It has been inevitable for some time and the recent activities of the league that piove its utility lnd value are having no small amount ef influence. ..mail iHKOitnr.tt.
