Records which are being work- I ed out by the engineering depart ment of Wiltv.s-( ivcrland Inc., bhow that there ate many of these auto- mobiles which have been driven iu ! excess of Hin.ttiKi miles without mo tor trouble and that this service, is normally expected by the average buyer of a Willys-Knight car. . The Investigation is covering tlie first niodels built ten yean ago and tso covers many instances of xtra hard service where cars hnvo been driven up to 50,000 miles In one year. In the Hood Itlver nppln country of Oregon there in u VUI s-Knlght coupe-sedan which has averaged heller than SO. ouo miles a year for the pa.t two years without a cent for motor rtsyntrs despite the fact that Ihe car ih put to unusually hard service. In central and eastern California there are Willys-Knight cars which are used daily in mountain driving with mileages idling up to 12t0 miles a week that still have to un dergo their first experience with a mechanic's tools. A recent run by an owner from San Fruncisco to Kl Centro .thence to Los Angeles and return required an average of better than 375 miles a day with one day calling for 472 miles through desert country and over steep mountain grades. The 472 miles were made in 15 hours total elapsed time with no consid eration given to tho lime spent for meals. The car which made this trip lud already been driven 27.000 miles and the motor has never been touched in any way. There are InManccn where Willys-Knight motors huve been driv en mi ns high as aou.ono miles and still maintain their original smooth ness and power. In cverv case where these old motors have been tested out for power, the results have shown that they develop ft higher power rat ing than that which was consider ed their best performance when they were new. The most recent development of Willys-Knight engineers, the addi tion of the I-nnchestcr balancer to the motor. Is expected to have a direct bearing on securing even greater mileages out of tho new motors than the' abnormally high achievements of the past. An important after effect of the balancer, which does away with all motor vibration, is a direct and appreciable increase of power.
