PRICE CUTS
CONTINUED
Further Price Slashing Is
Indulged in by Manu
facturers in the Last
Few Weeks.
NKW YORK. Price reductions (
in passenger cur lines are contiu-'
ulng. Only one or two Importnnt
1 lines still remain unaffected by the)
general downward trend. The re-1
ductlons have served the purpose!
of stimulating sales at u time of j
year when demand usually falls
off materially. Following the best
July In history, August flu lea and
production are holding up well.
Karnlngs In the last half of the
year are likely to be less than in
the first half because of the price
reduction, since there is no strong
likelihood that production for the
second half will exceed that of the
first half by any very wide inur-
trin. Reasonably good profits!
aeeni assured, however, for some
time ah. ad. The third quarter this
year will be tar ahead of the
third quarter of 1'j:4 unless ull
presents signs fail.
I'arts and accessory concerns
are participating equally wlih the
vehicle manufacturers in current
prosperity. I 'arts plan.B in general
are working well over 76 per cent
of capacity, while some are push
ing their facilities to' the limit.
A group oi eight representative
parts makers showed net profits
for the first half of 1'JJ.b which
were per cent in excels of
their earning during the same
period last year.
Production cupacity In the pas-J
longer car field is being increased j
although at a conservative rale in i
moat cases. Production still is be-f
ing held closely in line with sales
and dealers stocks are normal in
practically every part of the coun
try. Two more new models are being
announced this week and several
more are expected within the next
fortnight. After that, announce
ment should fall off in number,
ul though one or two rather im
portant ones are expected around
the first of September.
Favorable, prospects for crops,
especially wheat, make automo
tive executives parilcularly opti
mistic about full and winter busi
ness. Funnels buying may be a
large factor in determining outo
motive production for the last
four months of the year. Conse
quently, agricultural conditions
and prices are being watched
carefully.
The automobile industry moved
with a degree of caution during
the first quarter of this year, in
order to avoid the repetition of
market congestion that occurred
in m'4. Ktarting th second
quarter. how ever, out put and
sales gitined so rapidly, according
to reports to Dun's ltevievv, int
the fUst halt of thtf year closed
with the volume of business from
10 to 80 per cent In excess of
that for Iho comparative period of
1S24. Demand for cars has In
creased to such an extent that dis
tributors nre behind in their de
liveries. Manufacturers of busses
are operating at capacity, and in
some instances, demand for this
particular type of commercial
vehicle Is ahead of production
The used car trade is in In better
condition than for a long time.
