The announcement and the
'showing or the better Hoicks sil
enced the rumors that Huick
would abandon the valve-in-head
for another type engine which
would permit of cheaper construc
tion. The same principalcs that
were inaiigraled by Huiclc 21
years ago and which have made It
I he leader in t he industry have
been adhered to throughout.
The incchiinical improvements
introduced would have been con
sidered Impossibilities only a year
ago. They p present the work of
Huick research aiid engineering
staffs constantly striving for bet

tion, and are in no small measure
due to the phenomenal approval of
Huicks by the public. This latter

ten in the Muster Six clubs. In all
cases the distinctive Huiclc lines
have been continued, with refine

distinctive combinations. All clos

Huick has always been noted for
it ft Heated chassis, which prevents
dirt or water entering any of the
moving parts. Now it has added an
air cleaner, oil filter and gasoline
strainer.. These, combined with the
standard Huick construction, prac
tlcully eliminate the possibility of
any foreign substance entering the
engine or moving parts of tho
chassis and. consequently, mini
mize service requirements and add
to the life of the car.

teresting operations carried out
in one department at the Highland
I'ark plant of the Ford Motor
Company in which a number of
special Kurd designed machines
pluy an important part.
Just how much activity there Is
In this department may be gained
from the Tact that J J5 miles of
steel ribbon is used daily In the
production of roller bearings at
tho present output schedule, per
mitting the asembly of 61,000
complete bearings every day.
The steel ribbon used Is five
thirty-seconds of an inch thick
and about an Inch wide. It is
wound in l'ord designed and built
machines known as "winders" and
when It emerges from these mach
ines Is in the form of a heavy
spiral rod with a narrow opening
through the center. The rods art
cut into proper lengths lor tin
rollers, and the short lengths art
then hardened and tempered.
Grinding operations in which
the. rollers are ground to very
close limits ure carried on In other
1-ord designed machines, know n
as "centerless" grinders in which
the precision necssdry iu the- rol
lers Is easily regulated.
The last operation before the
rollers are finally assembled und
welded in the cages Is one thro
ugh which every finished bear.

ownership of motor vehicles, de

The law went Into effect July
1, und allowed only a little more
than 30 days within which to
make provision for Its administra
tion while In practically every
other state having a slmllur law
six months to u year was ullowed
for the purpose. It has been phy
sically Impossible to provide the
necessary machinery and facilities
within the limited time, but It is
expected the certificates of title
for every motor vehicle operuted
in Oregon, will be Issued by De
cember 1, I9L'5. Every motor ve
hicle owner In the state who hui
not already applied for the i'e
fuired certificate of title Is 'irged
to do so Immediately. It Is esti
mated that by the end of 1 925
there will be between ' 1 0.utiO und
216,000 motor vehicles In Oregon.
