A communication from the Kaplwi lodge hen- was read Inquiring- as to whether the city commis sion would draft un ordinance pre vent lug carnivals, circuses, ball games, etc., on Memorial day. The commissioners stated that they hud taken steps to prevent any car nivals or circuses on thai day but felt thut ball eames were not with in their jurisdiction. Monthly reports of the fire chief und tin- city recorder were read and filed. The fire report showed that six fire ealls had been turned in during June and the total loss during the month was $3267, The salary list was passed and ordered paid by warrants before adjournment. The first of the series of "pet acquainted" trips to Cove, last ev ening was quite a successful event. About 10 carloads from Ua Grande made the trip and were served u delicious dinner of fried chicken by l he Ladies Civic Improvement Club of Cove. The ladies are using Ihe proceeds from the dinner for i pairing the Cove library. Jjuring the serving the guests were entertained with a musical progrum. The I. 1. S. conference in Halt Uike, sang se veral songs and were well received Other musical features included vocal solos by Mrs. Chudwlck, Mr. Price, and a saxophone solo by Gordon Mills. Wcimer of Cove presided Attendance Light at American Legion Meet The American Legion met in regular monthly session at the Honan hull last evening. Attend ance was light and very little busi ness was transacted other than to decide to have the next meeting ut the park. This meeting, on the first Wednesday in August is to be made a picnic affulr with a lunch served in the park. The county has taken over the work of reconstructing the two new bridges with the expectation that the Santiam road will be improved by stale and federal co-operation in the near future. It seemed, us if the entire city turned out to the band concert last evening. Curs, curs, every w here around thf open ulr band s'und at the rear of the Foley building. The crowd wus estimated at from n thousand to fifteen hundred peo ple. The concert was therefore appre ciated by a larger number of peo ple than would have been possible in any hull in the city. The band played an exceptional program for u summer time con cert with enohgh lighter selections interspersed to relieve the heavier conceit numbers. 4 The extraneous noises of the summer evening made playing dif ficult ut times and both the mem bers of the organisation and An drew Loney, Jr., director of lite bund, are to be complimented up on the high degree of technical ex cellence uchleved throughout the entire program. n.
