Rome of (he most historical places now existing In the Cnlted States are shown In th" varlotm Kcenes which appear in the latest William Fox production, "The Warrens of Virginia." The pie! tire was made under the direction of Flmer Clifton and deals with the closing days of the civil War. One of the places visited was Shirley, Virginia, where the orig inal homo of Cien. Hubert IC. l.ee st ill stands as it was when Cien. I.ee's mother, who was Anne Car ter, resided there. It was In t his honm also that Cen. I.ee's grand parents were married. Many of the scenes shown in t he picture are takt n in and around this house, A not Iter historical place shown . in the picture is the famous San .lose Mission near San Antonio. Jt was hen- that many of the love I scenes wen; made. The mission Ih the oldest in existence In the t'l'ited States. Many of the war scenes in tint pic lure were taken along the banks of the historic Sahtdo river, which Hows past tile Al.'ino. This picture will be shown at the Star theater fur two days, commencing Thursday. "Pampered Youth" At Sherrys Today And Tomorrow. Superior photography Is prom ised, among other alluring fea tures in Vitagraph's "I'ainpered Youth," the plrturiy-ation of I loot h Tarkingl oil's great novel, "The Magnificent Ambcrsons." at Sher rys today and tomorrow. The assurance is made doubly certain when it is said Hint the men who had charge of tho pho lopraghy for this picture are the ones who wielded .the cameras in 'Captain Hlood," (fie Jtuper.speclal which was the work of the same producer, David Smith. The photography of "Captain Wood" was everywhere recognized as of the highest possible order. Some critics went so far as to say that in that gnat photoplay the pictorial side had no cpial In any other of present rilm successes. It wiw because of that voice of ap proval, unanimously lifted, that Mr. Smith determined to re-engage his photographic artists. "Pampered Youth" deals with a family living in a small Interior city, who take great pride in I he display of their wealth. The Ain licrsonH spent small fort tin en on (heir buildings, hoih inside and out, nnd "went in" for magnifi cence rather than taste and har mony. With all their splendor the ;i"1s in the picture are sometimes beautiful and Hie char mind, deft hand hnd artistic judgment of ex pert cameramen were required to translate ail their beauty to the screen. Hence ''I'ainpered "Youth," according to all accounts, Is us pic- 1 ifc-irTO!!1 W:J 1 M s r t.-Acnint. iwc iff XjiVjl Enough Is Enough for Jay xi ik jwLnn torlally beautiful na "Captain ltlood." which i sayniK a tot.' Comedy showing "Th' Cannon llall KxpresH," Sills Savs "Luck-Led Him to Fame. Tudy T.uck was a factor In bring ing Milton Sills the Idngest role of his screen career that of "The Sea Uuwk." Hills, who is co-featured wit h Doris Kenyon in "I Want My Man,' ut tho Arcade theater, is frank to admit It. "I hud heard that Frank l.loyd was getting ready to make 'The Sea Hawk nnd hod long been wishing to play the role on the screen." said Sills. "I finally con cluded that I was not to be the lucky one. "One day T was playing handball on the courts of the I .us Angeles Athletic club when someone slap- pet me on the back. H was l.loyd. " 'I didn't know you were such a big man. Milt,' hi' said. "You know I've been wanting you md Wally Ueery for parts in "Tho Sea Hawk," but 1 was afraid you were too small for Wully or Wally would bo too big for you. It's lucky 1 camo across you here.' " And had it not been for that in cident Sills is certain he would not have found htnuielf playing the leading role in a film pkiy that scored one of the greatest success es of screen li 1st ory. "1 Want My .Man," a First Na tional, promise iu Ite as big a hit, but of an in ti rely different type. It was adapted by Karl Hudson from Strut Iters Hurt's sensational llOVel, "Tin 1 llterpretel-'S I louse," and draws a vivid eonlmut between war and pro-war days. 27 YEARS AGO Daily Morning Observer, May 13, lS!i$ Attorney A.
