COURTESY. We Americans are not the most courteous people in the world, and we might as well confess it. Many a humbler people have much to teach us in the grace of urbanity and the fine art of gentle manners. We are a young na tion, and in spots at least still raw and a little crude. We have not yet learned that conduct in nine-tenths of lift-. Hut if we are wise, we will improve our manners and form the habit of courtesy in all the contacts of life. Courteous people carry with them an indefinable charm. To meet with them and to know them is to experience something, j akyi to looking upon, rpapjctureoihcarin apai ticu : lurly fine piece of music. .-Who admires a boor? Who cultivates a cad? Patmns avoid the impolite salesman and protest against doing husi i ness with a discourteous employe. Nor does an employtV gain anything but ill will by uncivil dealings with tho:;c under him. What a boon it would be to live in a coin-' , munity where courtesy was a ruling passion, where people delighted to say "Thank you' and view with one another to go out of their way to show a kindness or do a favor. Courtesy is a community asset always. Courtesy becomes youth especially. TRADE BUILDS CITIES. If m'erchunts and their helpers were not a pretty good natured class of people, whose rough edges have been worn lawny by much contact with their home folks, they would ;havc reason to get irritated at times. ' There are some people who wilt send off or. got to dis tant cities and make important purchases of clothing and house furnishings. Then when they find that they want some little trifling article in a hurry, they will rush down to the home store and demand that it be supplied to thrm install tor, and blame the store if it does not have precisely what they wmt. They expect these stores to keep slocked up all the time on a wide variety of goods, yet they will not help supply the all-around patronage which is the only basis for keeping such a general stock. ! It is a tremendous convenience and advantage lo have a fine gioup of retail stores in a town. Such establish ments connect a community with souives of supply Ih.-.t deal all over the world. A good store supplies the com forts and essentials of civilization, and it is a wonderful benefit to have it close by where you can call on its sol vit . il any moment, and get its supplies and its advice. "Uut people cannot expect to have the kind of stores their community is entitled to on the basis of its population and wealth, if they are constantly running off to other places to bay goods. Unless they give their patronage to their home stores, the home stores can not sene them efficiently. It is well to remember that the home stoivs and the men who own and operate them are a tremendous foive working all the time in l.a (Irande to provide this com munity with all foims of modern equipment, to improve Us civic advantages and to advance its prosperity. When you support them, you back up and help your community. Itudlo Announcer: MIhh Amy HtubbH. lyric Hoprnno, will now Hhitf "Ail Alone." j.lHii'iiw: Tluit'H good.
