fish.
A number uf attempts have been
made by various sporting1 organi
zations and Individuals to stock
the Hlouphs of the valley und the
small ponds In the vicinity with
bass. For the most part these
attempts huve been scemlmtly tin
successful. At least very few
bass are caught In the course of
the season by local sportsmen.
This is partly due, no doubt, to
ignorance of the methods used In
taking the fish but It seems cer
tain that comparatively few buss
live after planting.
Morgan lake, west of tho city,
was stocked at one lime with
small mouth buss and wus excel
lent flshlnp during one season,
What huppened to the fish after
thuL Is a mystery. Tho general
impression Is that the June wus
drained und that the fish died
from this cause. Hut t he lake J
at present Is the habitat of a
great number or porch which,- so
far us Is known, were not plant
ed ut all and nob uss are cu jght.
