Proverbs Si:S. - ' Visiting La Grande's Neighbors Business men of La Grande have plannAI a visit to nearby cities and towns next week. It is not to be a trado exclusion, lint on the other. hand, it is to he u social event wherein neighbor meets neighbor and talks about the tren end good. " This is the annual trip which has been indulged in and H is one of tho most enjoyablj features of life in La (iiunilo, for it gels business and professional men away from their stores and offices and brings them in close contact with friends who live in , other fields, who have different problems and who want to relax and talk things vver. .Thml how nnmv will Iumiii the excursion is not known as yet, but it is believed that the commercial section, of tho clly wilj be well represented, and it should be. Getting Married , In these days when young people get marriotT they have She same things to contend with that their fathers and mothers had namely, the good nature of their .follow beings. V A few days ago when' one of't'lie fcvonflig' Obsel'ver's force 'decided to quit the life of single blessedness and hav ing1 his entreaties met with an affirmative answer, the young couple were joined in holy wedlock. , True to human cusloiti they sought the stillness of the forest and the b'.'iiuty of naturo in which to spend their honeymoon. Tho spot they selected was nature's own art gallery Wallowa Lake, where Horn Leslie presides with much dignity and whore rigid rules govern the park. nut rules are made only to lc broken- and when this mountain guide at the lake learned that some newlywods were on the ground he dropped his regular business of guilding people over the mountains and worked with con siderable vigor to guide everyone at an appointed hour to the cabin wherein dwelt the pair who were starting on life's voyage together. . At a signal the noise began and such a demonstration was never staged back in the days of Lincoln when maU rimony claimed the belle of the community. Kvery con ceivable noise making device was brought into play and the lungs of the charivari party were lusty and strong. The great canyons echoed and re-echoed with the hilarity. Since the days of Chief Joseph and his Indians when' n war dance was on there has not been the bedlam around Wallowa Lake. There being no pltico else that evening to go, tho visitors continued to stay, greatly to tho embarrass ment of tho couple. Cigars and refreshments brought no cessation of the fun and for several hours Cupid was forced to undergo the most biain tplitting barrages of noise that could be imagined. Not content with the "send-off" to the young people some of the old practical jokers proceeded to' put stilt in their flour unci did a lot more things that caused embar rassment. All of which goes to show that humanity has not changed a great deal since the old New Kngland wed dings in colonial days, and that we are all happy and carefree people at times, thank goodness.
