Wlfr CAfAE OFF CAPUT TOCVAV- Library Ghats Lest We Forget ; When the warm Sundays arrive and little excuses pre vent, attending church in La Grande and in almost every other community in the country, it is a fine habit to send in your donation to the church anyway, for churches can- nut live without financial aid. Speaking of financial as sistance to churches, however, here are a couple of instances on tithing which are worth reading. We believe the L. D. S. people, who rigidly adhere to tithing will apprediate the forcefulness of these men's experiences: "In New tork City there is a merchant tailor witha large shop in one of the high-rent buildings which hun dreds of thousands of persons pass daily; it is along one of the veiy congested pathways of the city," writes Wil liam G. Shepherd in the World's Work, i .. "To this man," he adds, !'his own success in business hns '. only one explanation his tithing. He spoke to mc lis frankly about it as he might about any other business practice. 'r 'Any man who plays fair with God," he uuid, 'is sure ,to prosper. I started tithing when I got the idea some years, ago ;that all I had belonged to God, and that Ha was per imittjing mo to use rt.wlfep4cten, W eWir4e Vlicn I began to tithe, thnt my net income would be reduced by JO per ijcenfc But this has never happened to me.. Each year's net 'Income has bren larger in spite of tithing. V "'When the lease on these quarters ran out a few jeara ago, a great increase in rent was Hriiinded. We have a very choice corner in a very superior location, but it was hard to' see how we could make the payments. I talked the, matter over with my wife, and we both decided that, even if it became necessary to move, we would not stop tithing.. We signed the new lease, and at the end of the jiext twelve months our net profits showed a fine increase.' What come of the shirtsleeve style that was being boomed before the war? No matter how wide the agitation or the discussion of the abolition of the coat, man comes back tn it and offers no explanation. Is he such a slave to cus tom, to fashion, that he cannot bear to be different? Yet he is all the time harping on women's slavery to the mode. (., An Indianapolis man oilers what may be the real an- j swer to this clinging to the coat. Everybody knows the mystery of the contents of tho small lw.v's pockets. This Iloosier suggests that man never outgrows that habit and that he sticks, to his coat simply because he has to have pockets to carry all the junk he thinks he wants with him. Woman has handbags .that carry the few articles she deems essential. Can anyone imagine a man going around with a; handbag over his arm? He'd 'rather swelter and melt ina coat and have the pockets. But if you arc not personally familiar with the good Maxwell of today, your ideas are due for a thorough revision. We can prom ise.you that after you have put the good Maxwell to a thorough test. With the participation of the Chrysler engineering staff, the progress of the good Maxwell lifts it far beyond the values usually found in, four-cylint,vr cars at any price. By values we mean performing satisfaction, ready acceleration, freedom from vibration, certainty of control, easy riding, thorough going dependability, and, by all means, operating and maintenance economy. -These values are the direct result of materials and workmanship . . and a wealth cf engineering ability and experience that is not sur passed in the industry. Therefore be prepared to judge the ' Coed Maxwell by standards you have been accustomed to apply to cars of much higher price. Even then, the good Maxwell will give ( you a genuine surprise.
