MOUND CITY, III. (AP). Two, negroes, suspected
of slaying Miss Daisy Wilson, 18, in an attempted
holdup of her father's stoic al Villa Ridge, shortly
after midnight, were hrought here lo the county Jail ,
today for safe keeping. 1
A moh of several hundred men, apparently hent on
lynching, quieted when II. V. Moreland, Ku Mux Klaib
organize., spoke and prayed in front of the city jail
at Mounds, three miles west of here.
Several In the crowd were deputized by Sheriff '
Hudson to guard the prisoners. -
The coroner's verdict was homicide, holding the nc-
grocs responsible lis slayer and accessory. Wilson's
country store is on Meridian road, near Villa Ridge,
10 miles north of Cairo. One of Ihe negroes drew a
revolver and the two then sought to hold up the store
keeper. Wilson grappled with them, and the daughter,,
hearing the struggle, went lo his assistance. A shot
was fired and the woman fell, mortally wounded. The
bullet struck her head. The negroes then escaped, leav
ing Wilson severely beaten. A posse of several hun
dred men under Sheriff Hudson, aided by blood hounds,
searched for the negroes for several hours. They were
found, however, by Henry Bourv railroad man, near the
tracks 12 milts north of Cairo. 4 Hour summoned the
