ALL motor oils leave some carbonaceous residue. Eut
i. these residues are of different kinds. And therein .
lies the importance of choosing motor oils more cafefully.
Fop some oils deposit a' hard., flinty "carbon which
frequently scores cylinders.
This herd "carbon" becomes incandescent, pre-ignitea
the gas and causes knocking.
It accumulates around the vahe9, prevents tight seat
? ing and permits power to escape.

is short-circuited and the motor misses.
This hard "carbon" forms rapidly and ordinarily must
be removed eA'ery 2000 to 4000 miles, which requires a
motor lay-up.
But such difficulties may be overcome with Aristo
