of the unlovely epithets that fall so trippingly from our
tongues. As a people we are censorious and critical, given

cruel criticisms. So established is this habit of speech that

that those who make free with such speech, and who are
not ashamed to employ it where manifestly it is not war
ranted, would blush to utter any of the kindly words and
phrases which are expressive of tolerance. t
The doctor is right. We are loo rich in harsh and vin
dictive words, and far too poor in words of gentleness and

purposes for their .voting, but those schools also act as a
centerpiece for community interest. Tho hiring of the
teacher in a rural district is a distinct event in that com
munity, and the annual school election is another event of
importance. Tudor the unit plan such affairs would bo
given over to a central county board, and to our way of
thinking, s'-"h a plan will only add to dissipating interest
m rural life a thing wo all know to bo very dangerous.
We are glad that ' Umatilla county tried out tho plan
first for tho verdict in that county will have a bearing on
further work for tho plan in other counties.

With the passing of the superstition that there
is something mysteriously "better" about eastern
oils, just because they cost more, Zerolene sales
have increased seven-fold in the last seven years.
The following extract from a recent letter writ
ten us by the Citizens' Transfer & Storage Com
pany of Tucson, Arizona, has some bearing on
the reasons for this increase:
"Previous to using your Zerolene oils we experienced '
considerable trouble with eastern oils, which were '
much higher in price, and we found nonsuited to our
, . use. We have used Zerolene oils and greases for the i
' past five years. Our equipment (18 trucks and i .'
passenger care) is operated continuously throughout :
the. year and the maintenance has been confined to :
keeping it supplied with the proper amount of oil and
grease; bearings have required only reasonable ad
justment after long intervals, and no replacements.
We were well pleased with our recent quarterly
check or. the mechanical condition of our equipment,
and knowing this condition to be maintained by tha
use of your oils and greases, we thought your com- ;
pany would be interested to know of our completa
satisfaction."
