Union County's Tax
The' county court has levied 17.8 mills as the stale and
countytrix for the coming year. This is but seven-tenths
of a mill greater than last year. In this tax is included
interest on the county road bonds and the redemption fund
established to redeem the bonds.
Of course the tax would have been greater this year
had' not the state tax commission computed the possible
amount to be raised by the state income tax and deducted
from that the amount which general property must pay.
It is the first , echo, of the state income tax, and it is not
a bad start.
The futuro-of the income tax in Oregon depends wholly
upon the way the department functions and the efficiency
of the work of the collectors.
