An Instance of Jesus' j Healing. Let us consider for a moment ! one of the many examples given j us In the Scriptures of Jesus' simple, and yet to o v sense mar- veluus handling of a problem of sickness. Take one of his early healings In Luke's gospel. He it besought to help the mother of Simon's wife,., who is seemingly gravely 111. Apparently the Mas cr makes no inquiries as to the symptoms, does not ask for the cause of the malady, nor does he desire to take her tempera ture nor feel her pulse. Let us see what happened, as recorded by Luke. "And he stood over her, and rebukvd the fever; and It left her, and Immediately she arose and ministered unto them." There w as no period of conval escence, no gradual abating of ,lhc fever, nor slow recovery of strength, and the great Healer did not caution her about her diet and warn her not to cat too much. "Immediately, she arose and ministered unto them"! ln I the records of Its four thojan.l years medicine cannot find such an astounding cure of fever wrought through any of its ma terial methods. And yet Christ Jesus did not one material thing. He rebuked the fever the fev er, please notice, and not the wo man. Now a word is only tho audible expression of a thought; hence that which brought about this remarkable healing was wholly mental in ot her words. It was something which the Mas ter thought or understood. How Old dc-us Heal the Sick? This mighty understanding we . see rebuking melean spirits, heal ing epilepsy and all manner of disease; wo see it stilling storms; enable J-sus to walk on the wat er, to feed the multitude, and even to raise the dead. Perhaps! the saddist and moiit grievous er ror which scholastic theology i makes is the relegating of these demonstrations of Jsus control ! over evu nnd mai'Tinmy to tmv ren I in of 1 he miraculous. Theo logy excuses Its failure to do these works on the ground that Jesus was God. anil his acts standing the fiict thut the Mas ter plainly said that of himseif lie could do nothing, that It was the Father d welling' in him that did the works, nnd that thufc v h0 truly ,-'it' -d vu him!
